PAU Inks Pact with Sattva Seeds for Hybrid Chilli and Pumpkin

The Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, today entered into agreement with Sattva Seeds Pvt. Limited; a Raipur (Chhattisgarh) based Seed Company for licensing of CH-27 (Chilli Hybrid) and PPH 1 (Pumpkin Hybrid).

The MoA was signed by Dr Navtej Singh Bains, Director Research on behalf of PAU while Mr. Saurabh Rathi signed the pact on the behalf Sattva Seeds Pvt. Ltd. Dr Bains congratulated the proprietors for sharing responsibility of disseminating the technologies developed by PAU.

Giving details, Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt, Head, Department of Vegetable Science said that Chilli hybrid 27 developed by PAU is a high yielding variety being widely accepted by farmers in the North Western part of the country.

He revealed that PPH-1 is extra-early in maturity and can be harvested after 45 days of transplanting. The bushy nature of the plant is suitable for high density planting to get more returns. The mottled-green colour and small size of the fruit (800g) are highly liked by the consumer.

Dr. S.S. Chahal, Adjunct Professor, Technology Marketing and IPR Cell informed that PAU has signed 9 MoAs for CH-27 (Chilli Hybrid) and 2 MoAs for PPH 1 with various companies across the Nation. Dr. Chahal added that PAU has signed 167 MoAs and commercialized 39 technologies including hybrid lines of mustard, chilli, brinjal and varieties, bio-fertilizers, leaf colour chart, water testing kit, products, apple cider, and other technologies.

Dr Salesh Jindal, Assistant Vegetable Breeder, Department of Vegetable Science, added that CH-27 is a high yielding hybrid with multiple resistance to leaf curl virus, fruit rot and root knot nematodes.

The plants continue to bear fruits for a long time. Dr. Ashok Kumar, ADR (Farm Mechanization & Bio-energy) and MIS Gill, ADR (Horticulture and Food Science) were also present on the occasion.
