The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) signed a memorandum of understating with The Star Agriseeds Private Limited, Jaipur. Under the pact, the company has agreed to produce certified seed of the University developed moong variety SML 668 for seed distribution by the University to the farmers of Punjab.

Mr Sunil Kumar Goyal, Director, Star Agriseeds Private Limited and Dr Balwinder Singh, Director of Research, PAU signed the agreement in the presence of Dr Sandeep Kapur, Comptroller, PAU; Dr K.S. Thind, Head, Plant Breeding and Genetics, PAU; and Mr Raghav Goyal, a representative of Star Agriseeds Private Limited.

Dr Balwinder Singh said this seed production tie-up would go a long way in producing certified seed for further distribution to the farmers. he told that, the seed produced would be labelled as “Produced by Star Agriseeds Private Limited and Developed and Marketed by PAU.” He added that, the University would provide timely destination wise movement order of seed to the company, this agreement would be valid for a period of one year.

Mr S.K. Goyal said “Our Company has all India infrastructures for the seed production.” He said the company has agreed to organize a minimum 200 acres seed production programme of moong variety SML 668 through its regular seed organizers, during 2016 production season, for subsequent seed sale or distribution to the farmers in Punjab through the University. He further added that this joint venture would help in supplying quality seed to the farmers of Punjab.
